Who Is Crazy Frog?
Crazy Frog was originally knows as "The Annoying Thing". Some people still feel that the
original name is more appropriate ;)
The Ba-Ding-Ding-Ding sound came first - it was created by Daniel Malmedahl, a Swedish
computer salesman. In 1997, at the age of 17 he created this sound as the imiation of a two
stroke motorcycle engine. Some of Daniels friends made recording of the sounds, and posted
them to websites. As word spread, a Swedish television program featured Daniel performing his
hilarious sound effects live.
In 2003, Erik Wernquist (also from Sweeden) decided to create an animation to go along with
Daniel's sound effect, and produced the 3D annimated "Annoying Thing" video. This was the
birth of the Crazy Frog character, although at that time it was still known only as
"The Annoying Thing".
In 2004, a german mobile phone company licensed the annimation and sound effects to create
ringtones for cellular phones. The ring tone was an immediate success, and is the most
commercially successful ringtone created to date. It was at this time that the character
was given it's name "Crazy Frog"
The German dance music group "Bass Bumpers" produced a single based on the Crazy Frog sound
mixed with the "Axel F" instrumental. The Crazy Frog Axel F single reached the number one spot
on the UK pop chart in the summer of 2005.
Crazy Frog continues to grow - a second single has reached the top of the New Zealand pop charts,
albums have been released, and there are reports that a television program based on the
character is in the works.
